cruel humans!

I came across this article tonight and wanted to cry thinking about the poor puppies that were left in such a cruel manner. People who can hurt a defenceless animal are truly the scariest people alive.

Eight puppies found abandoned near shelter

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- An $800 reward is being offered by Madison County animal-welfare workers for information leading to the arrest of whoever abandoned eight puppies outside a shelter. One of the puppies froze to death before the dogs were found huddled together in a doghouse near the shelter in Edwardsville. The dogs apparently were abandoned after the shelter closed Saturday afternoon. Charity Laleman heads the shelter and says the remaining seven boxer-pitbull mix puppies are resting comfortably. They've been named after the Seven Dwarfs and will be put up for adoption in a couple of weeks. Anyone who has information about the animals' owner is asked to contact the Madison County Sheriff's Department at 618-692-0871.

Right now as you can see I am raising 5 of the cutest puppies around. This was a planned litter but not all litters are. I know sometimes things happen and you end up with more then you planned on but as a pet owner you are responsible for making sure the animals in your care are cared for and that includes unplanned puppies. Thanks God it is no longer looked on as acceptable behavior to kill unwanted puppies or kittens. If you know about people acting with such cruelty it is your duty to report them. If they can harm defenceless animals what next?

When I was a young girl there was a boy in our neighborhood that would hurt pets. everyone knew about him but nothing was ever done about it. I'll call him Eddy in this story.

I had a grey tabby cat that followed me home one day. My mom let me keep her. Of course she followed me because I kept dropping pieces of cheese on the ground for her to eat. You know how that works right? And when I got her in the yard I made sure she was locked up in the hallway until my mom got home from work and said she could stay. Well I didn't want her to run away did I? She was so sweet about half grown and loved to be cuddled. I named her Slippers since she had 4 white socks and mittens or socks seemed to ordinary. She slept on my bed under my covers and purred all night long. During the day she'd be by my side keeping me company while I read or played quietly. I was the oldest of 5 kids and unlike the rest of the family very quiet. Well one day when I got home from school she didn't come running to greet me. I called and called, getting desperate when it started getting dark. My mom tried to help by telling me she was a stray and so maybe she just wandered away again. But I knew better, she loved me and hated being outside any more then necessary so way would she run away? I finally went to bed but cried myself to sleep listening to hear her meow from outside my window. The next day I looked as long as I could before leaving for school. When I got home that afternoon the elderly gentleman next door called me over to his house and there was a little mound by his walkway in the tall flowers. He told me he went to do some weeding while I was gone to school and found my cat lying there. He knew I was looking for her so he covered her until I got home so I could bury her. He offered to dig the hole and had a box ready for her body. He really didn't want me to look at her. But I had to I had to make sure it was my Slippers. Finally he lifted the corner of the towel, there she was with her head caved in. The boy that everyone knew was so cruel had taken a brick and smashed her head in. The afternoon before the neighbor across the street from our house had seen Eddy throw a brick into the garden by the neighbors front door, he went out and yelled at him the get out but thought nothing of it until after Slippers was found dead. I was devastated and cried long and hard. The neighbor that found her, my family and all the neighbor kids all came to her funeral service that afternoon. This was the first time any of us had lost a pet to a deliberate act of cruelty. She was Murdered!!!! This wasn't the only time he hurt our pets but it was the only time we know of that a pet died at his hands.

Years later I ran into one of my playmates from that neighborhood and she asked me if I remembered Eddy? Of course I did how could I forget someone that horrible. Well he ended us in prison for murdering a girl friend. Could things have been different for him if someone had taken notice? If someone had insisted he get help? What about the girl friend? So many unanswered question????

First Post

Hello, I am a 49 year old divorced grandmother. I have three grown children and one 2 year old grandson. I am looking forward to welcoming a second grandchild in August 2008. I am in a committed relationship with a wonderful man I met online. We've been living together two months now and things are proceeding well. Living with us are my two chiranians dogs (These are Pomeranian/chihuahua hybrids) Sweetie and Lili. Sweetie gave birth to a litter of 5 puppies on December 10th. The pups are now almost 4 weeks old and are getting cuter by the day. We are all living in the small town of Bridgton Maine. It is located in the lakes region and is good example of a quaint New England town. I have tried blogging on Yahoo's 360 and on Tag world but wanted to use a blog page that would allow me to upload directly from Flickr. If you are unfamilair with Flickr and you take photos even casually I'd recommend the site highly.

The puppies are now three weeks old. Click on the photo's link to go see more photos of them eating and playing.
